PHILIPPINES — The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is on a strong path to meet its investment targets for the year after approving ₱216.46 billion in investments from January to August. The figure represents a 74 percent increase and marks a significant milestone in the country's post-pandemic economic recovery.

Investor Confidence Fuels Growth

The approved investments for the first eight months of 2026 are more than double the ₱105.83 billion recorded during the same period last year. PEZA noted that these pledges are expected to translate into 196 new and expansion projects. The surge underscores a renewed confidence among both local and foreign investors in the Philippine economy.

The Department of Trade and Industry Secretary and PEZA Board Chairperson Cristina Roque emphasized the significance of this achievement. She stated that reaching over 72 percent of the annual target in just eight months shows that investor confidence is translating into real commitments. The focus now is to move these projects forward quickly to benefit more workers and communities.

Manufacturing Leads the Way

Manufacturing continued to dominate the investment portfolio, accounting for 80 projects or 41 percent of the total. Ecozone development followed with 31 projects, while information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) added 30 projects. Facilities development contributed 19 projects, reflecting a diverse range of industries.

PEZA also reported that 34 of the approved projects are classified as big-ticket investments worth a combined ₱193.71 billion. These large-scale projects reflect sustained confidence in long-term operations. The Netherlands emerged as the top source of foreign investments, followed by South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan.

A Strong August Performance

The month of August alone proved exceptional for PEZA. The agency registered 22 projects worth ₱64.57 billion, a staggering 334 percent increase from the ₱14.87 billion approved in August 2025. This included nine big-ticket projects worth a combined ₱62.05 billion.

This strong monthly performance highlights the accelerating momentum of investment approvals. PEZA is confident in reaching its ₱300-billion target for the year. The agency last reached this mark in 2012, making this year's potential achievement particularly notable.

A Vision for High-Value Growth

PEZA Director General Tereso Panga expressed optimism about the agency's direction. He stated that the results are a clear vote of confidence in the country's capacity to compete for high-value investments. The focus remains on pursuing investments in green industries, advanced technologies, and other high-value sectors.

With four months still remaining in the year, PEZA plans to continue its global trade missions and targeted partnerships. The goal is to attract more investments that will expand export capacity and create quality jobs for Filipinos. The agency is committed to deepening the country's integration into global value chains.
