Major Investment Targets Bohol's Main Air Gateway
BOHOL -The Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) is preparing for a substantial modernization program as Aboitiz InfraCapital Bohol Airport Corporation commits approximately PHP4.53 billion toward the improvement and expansion of the facility. The investment forms part of a 30-year public-private partnership concession and is intended to strengthen the airport's ability to accommodate the increasing number of travelers visiting Bohol. As tourism continues to play a major role in the province's economy, improving its primary air gateway is expected to support both visitor demand and long-term connectivity.
Airport Facilities to Receive Upgrades
The modernization program covers improvements to both the airport's landside and airside facilities, with particular attention to passenger capacity and operational reliability. Initial activities have already included the restoration of elevators, repairs to baggage carousel systems, preventive maintenance of passenger boarding bridges, and inspections of power-related equipment. Passenger weighing systems have also undergone calibration as part of efforts to maintain dependable airport operations. These early improvements are intended to address immediate operational needs while laying the groundwork for larger upgrades under the long-term development program.
Improving Safety and Passenger Experience
Airport modernization will also focus on strengthening safety systems and making travel through the facility more efficient and comfortable. Recent activities include inspections of important airport facilities, assessments of fire protection systems, runway rubber removal, and runway friction testing. Such measures are important for maintaining safe aircraft operations while ensuring that airport facilities remain reliable as passenger traffic grows. Improving the overall passenger experience is also expected to make Bohol's gateway more capable of serving both domestic travelers and international visitors.
