BOHOL — PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions is bringing professional boxing action to Loon on Sept. 9 as it opens the highly anticipated “Kumong Bol-Anon 26” with a four-bout fight card.
The Loon event will serve as a buildup to the main boxing showcase on Sept. 12 at the Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium in Tagbilaran City, where former world champion Sivenathi Nontshinga of South Africa will face PMI Bohol Boxing Stable fighter Regie “Filipino Phenom” Suganob in a world title eliminator.
Loon Boxing Card Set for Sept. 9
The Sept. 9 event will be held as part of Loon's fiesta celebration. Although none of the bouts will have a championship belt at stake, the card is expected to deliver competitive professional boxing action.
Leading the event is the return of former world title challenger Gerwin “Gladiator” Asilo (12-2, 5 KOs). Asilo will face experienced Leyte boxer Renoel Pael (24-18-2, 12 KOs) in an eight-round fight at 118 pounds. The bout will give Asilo an opportunity to bounce back after losing to Keita Nakayama in Japan last April.
Undefeated Acaylar Returns to the Ring
Unbeaten featherweight Jericho Acaylar (4-0, 2 KOs) will also be featured on the card. Acaylar is set to face Manila-based fighter Alex De Quiroz (5-2-1, 2 KOs). The fight will mark Acaylar's third professional appearance of the year as he looks to maintain his perfect record. Another matchup will see Sugarey Leonard Pores (9-2, 6 KOs) take on Davao del Sur's Jelo Bacalso (6-13-2, 4 KOs). Opening the event will be Dryxz Russel Sardalla (1-0, 1 KO), who will look for his second professional victory against Anthony Galan (3-1-2, 2 KOs).
Suganob and Nontshinga Set for Major Rematch
The Loon fight card is expected to build momentum for the bigger Kumong Bol-Anon 26 event on Sept. 12. The main attraction will feature Suganob and Nontshinga in a rematch of their 2023 world title fight in South Africa. Suganob, who is ranked No. 1 by both the IBF and WBO at junior flyweight, enters the bout with an 18-1 record and seven knockouts. He is also riding a five-fight winning streak and previously captured the WBO Global junior flyweight title.
Nontshinga enters the rematch with a 14-2 record and 11 knockouts. The South African former world champion will also be making his first appearance in the Philippines.
World Title Opportunity on the Line
The Sept. 12 bout carries major implications for the junior flyweight division, with the winner earning the opportunity to challenge reigning IBF junior flyweight champion Thanongsak Simsri of Thailand.
With the world title eliminator serving as the centerpiece of Kumong Bol-Anon 26, the two-day boxing showcase is set to bring high-level professional boxing to Bohol. The Loon opener will give local boxing fans an early taste of the action before the major showdown in Tagbilaran City.
