Rice Festival Opens in Tagbilaran City
BOHOL - The National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) Rice Festival officially opened on November 6, 2026, at the National Museum of the Philippines in Tagbilaran City. Carrying the campaign message, “Be RiCEPONSIBLE Every Day!”, the event encourages the public to develop responsible habits when purchasing, preparing, and consuming rice. The initiative highlights the importance of making everyday food decisions that benefit households, local farmers, and the country's agricultural sector. It also provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the role of rice in Filipino culture and daily living.
Making Every Grain Count at Home
One of the campaign's main messages is avoiding unnecessary rice wastage. Households can practice this by preparing portions according to the number of people eating, storing uncooked rice properly, and keeping leftover rice in clean, covered containers under safe refrigeration conditions. Families can also plan meals ahead and find appropriate ways to use safely stored leftovers instead of throwing away food. Small habits like these can help households manage their food budgets while respecting the effort and resources involved in producing every grain of rice.
Supporting Filipino Farmers Through Better Rice Choices
The campaign also encourages consumers to purchase locally produced rice and consider healthier rice varieties as part of a balanced diet. Buying Filipino-grown rice helps create demand for local agricultural products and supports farmers who contribute to the country's food supply. Consumers can explore available varieties, including brown rice and other less-refined options, depending on their dietary needs and preferences. By making informed purchases and avoiding unnecessary waste, households can contribute to a more responsible food system while helping strengthen the connection between consumers and local farming communities.
