SURIGAO CITY — The City Government of Surigao took another step toward the proposed Mariculture Economic Zone through a strategic meeting with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) on July 2, 2026. The meeting focused on the development of the Nabago Mariculture Park, discussing the requirements, processes, and next steps needed to move the proposal forward. The proposed economic zone is envisioned to strengthen Surigao City's blue economy by attracting investments, creating employment opportunities, and promoting sustainable aquaculture development.
A Strategic Partnership for Regional Growth
The meeting brought together key officials from the City Government of Surigao, MinDA, and PEZA to advance the proposed economic zone. The MinDA delegation was led by Planning and Research Division Chief Argie S. Leparto, while the PEZA delegation was headed by Administrator Atty. Adel Khan Alug. The meeting also included the City's Technical Working Group with Consultant Uriel Eugenio S. Correos. The discussions focused on the requirements and processes needed to support the proposed project, reflecting a collaborative effort to strengthen Surigao City's blue economy.

Following the meeting, the delegation conducted a site visit to the Nabago Mariculture Park to assess its potential and evaluate its suitability for the proposed Mariculture Economic Zone. The initiative reflects the City Government of Surigao's continuing efforts to promote sustainable economic growth through strategic partnerships and the responsible development of the city's marine resources.
