TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — To drive sustainable livelihoods and boost community food security, the City Agriculture Office (CAO), in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), is conducting an intensive 29-day Organic Agriculture Training Program in Barangay New Kawayan, Tacloban City.
Empowering Local Farmers Through Practical Skills
The comprehensive hands-on program, running through September 7, 2026, has brought together 26 active local beneficiaries eager to master eco-friendly and cost-effective agricultural techniques.
The curriculum balances theoretical knowledge with hands-on application, focusing on key areas of organic farming:
Vegetable Production: Methods for growing high-yield, chemical-free crops suited for local conditions.
Organic Fertilizer Production: Formulating natural soil enrichers to eliminate reliance on expensive synthetic fertilizers.
Livestock Management: Best practices for raising farm animals using natural and sustainable care techniques.
Fostering Community Resilience and Livelihoods
By equipping residents with specialized technical skills, the joint CAO-TESDA initiative aims to transform Barangay New Kawayan into a model for sustainable agriculture. The program not only opens up immediate income-generating opportunities for the 26 participants but also reinforces the long-term food stability and agricultural capacity of Tacloban City.
