TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte — A groundbreaking ceremony on August 13, 2026 marked the official start of construction for a new 3-storey, 6-classroom building at F. Dela Cruz – P. Sagun Elementary School. The project promises to deliver modern learning spaces to the growing community of Barangay Mankilam.
A Shared Vision for Better Education
City Mayor Rey T. Uy led the ceremony, joined by First District Representative De Carlo “Oyo” Uy and other key education leaders. Their presence signaled a unified commitment to improving public school infrastructure across the city. The new building is a direct response to the growing number of students needing quality classrooms.
The project will be equipped with features that make learning comfortable and safe. The classrooms are designed to be resilient against the region’s changing weather. This investment ensures that children and teachers have an environment conducive to focus and growth. It is a tangible step toward a brighter future for the students.
A Partnership for Progress
This initiative was made possible through the strong support of Representative Oyo Uy’s office, the Department of Education, and the local government. The cooperation between different levels of government is key to realizing such important projects. It shows what can be achieved when leaders work together for a common goal.
During his message, Mayor Uy expressed his gratitude to the congressional office. He noted that the additional building is a huge help in preparing the city for its increasing student population. The combined efforts reflect the government’s ongoing dedication to strengthening educational infrastructure.
Honoring a Legacy of Generosity
The school itself carries a rich history. It was formerly known as Union Elementary School before being officially renamed. The name now honors the Dela Cruz family and Mr. Primo Sagun, the original donors of the land. This new building stands as a testament to their lasting gift.
The groundbreaking is a symbol of progress built on a foundation of community support. It represents the shared hope for the children of Barangay Mankilam. With the addition of these six modern classrooms, the school is better equipped to fulfill its mission of providing quality education for years to come.
