MAKATI CITY — The University of Makati (UMak) has welcomed Robert L. Loebe as its incoming English Language Fellow through the U.S. Embassy Manila – Regional English Language Office. The fellowship marks a significant step in the university's continuing journey toward internationalization, global learning, and academic excellence. The 10-month program will involve teaching, academic collaboration, and English language initiatives that benefit both students and faculty. Loebe brings extensive international academic and professional experience, having worked with institutions in the United States, China, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, and holds a Master's degree in Foreign Languages and Pedagogy.
A Warm Welcome Celebrating International Partnership
On August 17, the university held a welcome program featuring a cultural performance by UMak Siglahi that showcased Filipino artistic heritage. Vice President for Academic Affairs Professor Ederson Tapia expressed the university's support for this international engagement, while Ms. Josephine Yu, Head of the City-International Relations Department, emphasized backing from the City of Makati. University President Professor Elyxzur Ramos personally welcomed Loebe, underscoring UMak's commitment to meaningful international partnerships and academic exchange.
Building Bridges Between the Philippines and the United States
The fellowship is part of the U.S. Embassy's Regional English Language Office programs, which aim to strengthen English language instruction and build lasting connections in classrooms and communities. Loebe's expertise, complemented by further training in Spanish and TESOL, will create opportunities for students and faculty to benefit from his international teaching experience.
