Strengthening Community Development Expertise
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol, led by Gov. Aris Aumentado, conducted the three-day advanced training through the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) for CEDOs and technical staff. PCDO Department Head Ma. Conrada Fuentes opened the activity and highlighted the importance of continuously strengthening the participants’ knowledge, skills, and capabilities. The training was designed to prepare personnel for more effective roles in future community development initiatives and enhance their ability to respond to the needs of local communities.
Applying Community Organizing to Local Concerns
The training revisited fundamental concepts of Community Organizing–Community Development while deepening participants’ understanding of the principles, values, and ethical practices that guide effective community work. Practical sessions also allowed participants to apply the community organizing process to real-life situations, identify community needs, and determine appropriate approaches for addressing local concerns. Through these exercises, participants gained opportunities to connect concepts with actual community situations and strengthen their capacity to facilitate participatory development processes.
Building Responsive and Sustainable Communities
The capacity-building initiative is expected to strengthen CEDOs and technical staff in implementing responsive, participatory, and sustainable community development interventions throughout Bohol. By investing in the capabilities of personnel working directly with communities, the PCDO can help improve the delivery of programs and encourage greater participation in local development efforts. The activity is aligned with the PGBh Strategic Change Agenda and supports the province’s commitment to becoming a smart, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable community as the Philippines’ first and only UNESCO Global Geopark.
