MAKATI CITY — The Yuchengco Museum is showcasing “Under One Roof,” a two-person exhibition featuring the works of Filipino painter-couple Angelito Antonio and Norma Belleza. Running from August 22 to 31, 2026, the exhibition highlights the artists’ vibrant interpretations of the folk genre, drawing inspiration from the social realities and everyday experiences of Filipino communities. Presented at the 3F Bridgeway Gallery, the exhibition brings together the distinct artistic styles of Antonio and Belleza, who shared decades of life and work under one roof. Their paintings transform ordinary scenes and experiences into colorful visual narratives that reflect the rhythms, character, and changes within Philippine society.

A Legacy Shaped by Filipino Experiences

Antonio, who passed away in 2025, and Belleza were influential figures in the development of the native artistic expression known as the folk genre. Both earned their fine arts degrees from the University of Santo Tomas and established their names in major visual art competitions beginning in the 1960s. Although they developed their own approaches to painting, both artists drew heavily from the people and communities around them. Their works are often characterized by crowded compositions filled with frontally positioned figures, with scale and proportion deliberately set aside to create a distinctive visual language. Through these works, “Under One Roof” offers audiences an opportunity to appreciate how the two artists interpreted Filipino everyday life while developing their individual voices within contemporary Philippine art.
