Long before Spanish colonizers arrived, indigenous inhabitants called the land Buglas, referring to the tall reeds that grew across its plains. The festival was first organized in 1981 and later revived as the province's official unifying celebration. Freedom Park Transforms Into a Mini Province
At the heart of the festivities lies Ninoy Aquino Memorial Freedom Park, where each local government unit builds elaborate heritage booths. These structures are crafted from bamboo, nipa, rattan, and woven coconut leaves. Visitors can tour the entire province without leaving the capital, sampling highland produce, coastal crafts, and traditional artistry.
