BACOLOD - Bacolod City has reached another milestone in educational development after being chosen as the home of the largest Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campus in the country. The Philippine Science High School System Board of Trustees formally approved the establishment of the new regional campus, which will rise on a 10-hectare property in Barangay Granada. Groundbreaking is scheduled for November 2026, while the school is expected to welcome its first students in July 2027. City officials described the project as a significant investment in the future of science and technology education, providing students in the Negros Island Region with greater access to one of the country's premier public secondary schools. The new campus also demonstrates the national government's continuing commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the regions.
Expanding Opportunities for Future Scientists and Innovators
Once completed, the Bacolod campus will accommodate up to 720 students, beginning with an inaugural class of 120 Grade 7 students for School Year 2027–2028. Admission will be based on the Philippine Science High School National Competitive Examination, with an information campaign planned across schools in the Negros Island Region to encourage qualified Grade 6 learners to apply. Students admitted to the PSHS system will receive full government scholarships that include free tuition, textbooks, monthly stipends, and other educational support. These benefits allow academically gifted students to pursue advanced STEM education regardless of their financial background.
