Hands-On Learning for Local Vegetable Growers
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), together with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Inabanga, launched a 16-week Farmers Field School (FFS) on Organic Vegetable Production on September 17, 2026, in Barangay Dait Sur, Inabanga. The program brings together 41 farmers from Barangays Dait Sur and Baw-go, representing two farmers’ organizations, for practical lessons designed to strengthen their knowledge of organic vegetable farming.
Building Practical Skills From Soil to Harvest
Throughout the field school, participants are set to gain hands-on experience in soil health, crop production, seed selection and management, organic inputs, pest and disease management, as well as proper harvesting and post-harvest handling. Provincial Organic Agriculture Focal Person Emmanuel Odtohan emphasized that the program aims to improve farmers’ practical skills in safe, sustainable, and environment-friendly vegetable production. Provincial Agriculturist Liza M. Quirog and Municipal Consultant Dr. Jose Travero likewise encouraged participants to apply what they learn directly on their farms and explore organic agriculture as a productive livelihood.
Supporting Inabanga’s Role in Sustainable Agriculture
The initiative also supports Bohol’s broader efforts to expand local vegetable production, with Inabanga included in the province’s Vegetable Corridor Phase 2. The participation of Barangay Captain William Anasco further highlights the role of local communities in advancing agricultural initiatives. Anchored on the Capitol’s Strategic Governance Roadmap, the Farmers Field School contributes to the province’s efforts toward climate-smart agriculture and sustainable development while helping farmers build knowledge that can be applied beyond the training sessions.
