HONG KONG — The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong introduced a groundbreaking legal outreach initiative on July 12, 2026, merging artificial intelligence with free legal guidance for overseas Filipino workers. The First Legal “AI” Aid Forum, held at the Filipino Workers Development and Social Centre in Admiralty, offered instant, accessible legal information to over 50 attendees.
A Digital First for Legal Assistance
The forum introduced the Legal Expert Artificial Intelligence (LEAi), an AI-powered research tool developed by MyLegalWhiz. Consul General Romulo Victor M. Israel, Jr. described the platform as a form of “legal first aid” that provides immediate, practical answers to common legal questions. He stressed that while LEAi serves as a vital first step, complex cases still require a licensed lawyer.
The initiative was created in collaboration with Atty. Joseph Dexter M. Feliciano of Thinc Office Corp, Atty. Mary Christine Salome C. Florete of Florete Law, and Ms. Kay Lugtu of Hungry Workhorse. Their partnership ensured that technology was responsibly deployed to complement the Consulate’s ongoing efforts to bring legal education directly to the Filipino community in Hong Kong.
Empowering OFWs with Immediate Answers
During the event, participants received free credits to test LEAi on their mobile devices. They posed real-life legal questions and received AI-generated responses grounded in Philippine statutes. Many queries centered on land titles, property disputes, small claims, and family law—issues that frequently trouble migrant workers who are away from home.
Those with more complex situations had the opportunity to consult directly with the attending lawyers and Vice Consul Allan G. Revote, the Consulate’s Legal Officer. The combination of instant AI responses and personalized expert advice created a supportive environment where OFWs felt informed and empowered. Feedback highlighted that the forum made Philippine law significantly easier to understand.
A Commitment to Ongoing Legal Outreach
The collaborators pledged to hold similar free legal AI clinics on a quarterly basis, ensuring sustained access to legal information for Filipinos in Hong Kong. This commitment extends the Consulate’s broader mission of bridging economic diplomacy and community empowerment through innovation. The forum builds on earlier initiatives like the “Info-Serye Project,” which simplified legal concepts into digestible social media content.
Consul General Israel emphasized that technology must serve the people, and that LEAi gives the community confidence to navigate legal challenges. The initiative demonstrates how public service, legal expertise, and digital tools can converge to create an enabling ecosystem for Filipinos abroad.
