Why Vaccination Matters and Quick Guidelines for Pet Owners
Rabies remains a significant public health concern in the Philippines, with the country consistently ranking among the top five nations with the highest rabies deaths globally . The primary reservoir of rabies in the Philippines is the domestic dog, and most human rabies cases are the result of dog bites . Free vaccination drives play a vital role in protecting both pets and the community by achieving the 70% immunization coverage needed to achieve community-level protection against rabies . By bringing dogs and cats to these vaccination sites, pet owners help protect their furry companions and contribute to public health and safety.
For the vaccination drive, pet owners are reminded to bring all eligible dogs and cats for rabies protection and to secure their pets using a sturdy leash or proper pet carrier. This ensures the safety of both the animals and the veterinary team conducting the vaccinations.
