PHILIPPINES — Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) has secured the 369th spot in TIME’s World’s Most Sustainable Companies 2026, climbing 117 places from last year. It remains the only Philippine real estate developer on the prestigious list, a testament to its deepening commitment to environmental and social stewardship.
A Milestone for Philippine Real Estate
The recognition marks ALI’s second consecutive year on the global ranking. The property giant joins Globe Telecom Inc. as the only two Philippine companies recognized this year. This achievement underscores the company’s role in advancing sustainable practices within the country’s real estate sector.
ALI President and CEO Meean Dy said the recognition reinforces the company’s focus on building places designed to last for generations. She emphasized that long-term value for communities and sustainable development are inseparable. The climb in rankings reflects tangible progress, not just promises.
Measurable Progress Across the Portfolio
As of end-2025, 98 percent of gross leasable area across ALI’s malls, offices, and hotels runs on renewable electricity or renewable energy certificates. The company also diverted 44 percent of waste from landfills, moving closer to its zero-waste-to-landfill goal by 2030. These figures highlight a strategy built on measurable outcomes.
ALI holds EDGE Zero Carbon certification for over 1.5 million square meters of commercial office space. This represents the largest certified portfolio of its kind globally. The company continues to expand pedestrian networks, bike lanes, and EV charging facilities across its estates.
Sustainability as a Business Strategy
Chief Sustainability Officer Robert Lao said the strategy aims to deliver results at scale across the portfolio. Reducing environmental impacts goes hand in hand with enhancing the long-term performance of assets. This approach has improved the company’s access to capital.
ALI pioneered sustainability-linked financing in Philippine real estate. In 2025 alone, it secured a ₱12.87-billion sustainability-linked loan from the IFC and a ₱15-billion sustainability-linked bond. These financial instruments tie interest rates to sustainability targets, proving that green practices attract investment.
A Blueprint for Future-Proof Cities
The company’s efforts extend beyond individual buildings to entire estates. Estates are designed as walkable communities with accessible transit, green spaces, and low-carbon infrastructure. This integrated approach positions ALI as a model for sustainable urban development in the Philippines.
The TIME ranking methodology evaluated more than 5,000 companies on over 20 data points. Criteria included emission intensity, renewable energy ratio, waste intensity, and social indicators like workplace safety. ALI’s strong performance across these metrics showcases a holistic sustainability framework.
A Commitment to Long-Term Value
For ALI, sustainability is a long-term driver of growth and competitiveness. The company views each green building and each renewable energy contract as an investment in resilience. This perspective ensures that the value created today will endure for future generations.
The recognition from TIME is not just a badge of honor. It is a signal to investors, partners, and homebuyers that ALI is serious about its role in combating climate change. The climb in rankings tells a story of consistent, verifiable improvement.
