Bohol Contributes to Regional Coastal Planning
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), strengthened its participation in regional coastal resource management by contributing local knowledge and technical inputs to the development of a comprehensive plan for Fisheries Management Area 9 (FMA-9). BPEMO participated in the Key Stakeholder Consultation Workshop for the FMA-9 Coastal and Marine Habitat Protection, Rehabilitation, and Management Plan (CMHPRMP) held on August 19–20, 2026, in Cagayan de Oro City. The consultation brought together government and local stakeholders to discuss shared concerns affecting coastal and marine ecosystems across the management area.
Developing Science-Based Coastal Management Strategies
The consultation was conducted under the FishCoRe Project–FishCRRM Sub-component 1.3, bringing together representatives from national government agencies and provincial local government units. Discussions focused on priority coastal and marine habitat concerns, possible management interventions, institutional arrangements, and coordination mechanisms among national, regional, provincial, and local stakeholders. These discussions are intended to help establish a more coordinated approach to protecting important habitats while addressing challenges affecting fisheries and coastal resources.
Advancing Environmental Governance in Bohol
Bohol’s participation in the FMA-9 planning process supports the province’s Strategic Governance Roadmap and its commitment to science-based environmental governance. The initiative also complements Bohol’s identity as the Philippines’ first and only UNESCO Global Geopark, where environmental protection and sustainable development are important components of long-term provincial planning. By sharing local knowledge and working with regional partners, Bohol continues to contribute to collaborative solutions that protect natural resources while strengthening the resilience of coastal communities.
