BUTUAN CITY — The City Government of Butuan has officially commenced the rehabilitation of the Polysports Complex Oval Track with a groundbreaking and time capsule laying ceremony, following the receipt of the necessary clearance from the Commission on Audit. The long-awaited project addresses the deteriorating condition of the oval track, which had become dangerous for practice and exercise. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for local athletes and residents who have been eagerly anticipating the much-needed repairs to the facility.

Major Upgrades to Boost Sports Development

The first phase of the project includes the repair of the running track, the football field, and the drainage system. A key feature of the rehabilitation is the installation of artificial grass on the football field, which will comply with the standards set by the Philippine Sports Commission. This upgrade ensures that the venue will be suitable for training, competitions, and other sports activities. The improved facilities are expected to provide a safer and more conducive environment for athletes to hone their skills and prepare for future competitions.

Young Athletes and Coaches Express Optimism

Young athletes have expressed their excitement over the project, with Zhianjay Austria, a 12-year-old football player, sharing that the new facilities will significantly improve their training for upcoming competitions. Balangay Sentinels Football Club Head Coach Leonerio "Yoyoy" Delanto emphasized the vital role that quality sports facilities play in developing young talent, noting that proper training venues are essential for producing more skilled athletes and coaches. Coach Delanto added that with appropriate training grounds, more student-athletes will have greater chances of reaching the national level.

A Win for Local Sports and the Community

The rehabilitation of the Butuan City Polysports Complex is part of a multi-year development program aimed at creating a modern sports complex that benefits athletes, students, and the entire community. The project represents a strong commitment to providing world-class sports infrastructure that supports the growth of local sports and promotes healthy lifestyles among residents. The rehabilitation is seen as a shared dream for the community, promising a brighter future for sports development in the region.
