BUTUAN CITY — Education stakeholders across Butuan City have united to establish 10 Strategic Pillars that will serve as the guiding framework for developing programs and policies aimed at further enhancing the quality of education in the city. The landmark agreement was forged during the three-day Education Summit 2026, held from July 22 to 24, which brought together representatives from Basic Education, Higher Education, TESDA, and various partner agencies to discuss the challenges and needs of the education sector. The summit marked a significant step toward a more coordinated and inclusive approach to education development in the city.

A Unified Vision for Educational Excellence

The summit served as a platform for education leaders to assess the current state of schools and agree on concrete measures to improve student learning, expand support for teachers, and enhance school governance. Butuan City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Minerva T. Albis emphasized that the success of education depends on the collective effort of government, schools, parents, and the community. “Education is everybody’s concern. It takes a village to educate a child, so this should not be left to DepEd alone; it should be a whole-of-community approach,” Dr. Albis stated, underscoring the summit’s core philosophy of shared responsibility.

Ten Pillars for a Brighter Future

The 10 Strategic Pillars were formulated based on recommendations from various education sectors and will serve as the foundation for planning future programs and projects for education in Butuan. These pillars represent a comprehensive roadmap that addresses key areas such as curriculum development, teacher welfare, infrastructure, and community engagement. The summit was led by the City Government of Butuan through the City Education Development Department, in partnership with the Department of Education and other partner agencies. The collaborative effort reflects the city's commitment to building a resilient and responsive education system that meets the needs of every learner.

A Community-Driven Approach to Learning

The Education Summit 2026 highlighted the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in addressing the complex challenges facing the education sector. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the summit created a space for meaningful dialogue and shared decision-making. The resulting 10 Strategic Pillars are expected to guide the city's education agenda for years to come, ensuring that programs are aligned with the actual needs of schools, teachers, and students. This community-driven approach reinforces the belief that quality education is a shared goal that requires the active participation of all sectors of society.
