DAVAO CITY—A new landmark is taking shape in the southern part of Davao City as development accelerates on the DGT City Center, a modern retail destination within the sprawling 22-hectare Davao Global Township (DGT).
Innovative as it may be, this commercial enterprise has been developed in collaboration with two firms: Cebu Landmasters Inc. and YHEST Realty. The aim is to set a new paradigm for the mall by incorporating a unique wave-shaped glass roofing system, thereby breaking away from the traditional square-shaped mall design.
A Design That Stands Out
The DGT City Center, designed by the world-renowned architecture firm CASAS + Architects Inc., has already garnered global recognition through its recognition by the highly acclaimed Asia Pacific Property Awards. This building has been designed in harmony with nature, incorporating natural spaces, open-air areas, and modern tropical architecture to create a dynamic and functional environment.
It is not only for decorative purposes that this wavy-shaped roof made from glass has been installed, but rather to allow light to pass through into the area and provide protection at the same time. Thus, conserving energy and improving the overall shopping experience for the consumer. The design is consistent with current architectural designs, which tend to be both environmentally friendly and experience based.
A Boost for Davao’s Growing Economy
This is happening while Davao City experiences rapid economic growth due to the presence of both domestic and international investors. The project, known as the 22-hectare Davao Global Township, is designed as a master-planned development with the purpose of being used for business and living purposes.
DGT City Center is not envisioned merely as a business place; instead, it reflects progress, as well as fast-paced developments, in the urbanization of Davao. Once finished, it will be expected to provide job openings and draw retail stores, along with serving as an assembly place for both locals and tourists.
Expectations for DGT City Center
Although no concrete information about tenants has been released yet, industry experts predict that DGT City Center will comprise both local and foreign brands, food outlets, and entertainment options. The open-air and nature-centric layout implies a move towards retail developments that are more conducive for walking—a trend that is growing increasingly popular in contemporary city planning post-pandemic.
Developer Confidence
Cebu Landmasters Inc., a well-known developer operating in the Visayas and Mindanao areas, has made its mark in Davao, recognizing its capabilities as one of the cities to look out for beyond Metro Manila. YHEST Realty, its local partner, is no doubt knowledgeable about the local market.
As evidenced by the project winning in the Asia Pacific Property Awards, the development is of high caliber and forward-thinking, providing an architectural standard in retail design that cannot be topped.
Looking Ahead
As construction progresses, anticipation is building among Davaoeños and real estate watchers. DGT City Center is on track to become a new destination—and a new lifestyle—for the city’s south.
With its wave-inspired roof already taking shape against the Davao skyline, the message is clear: a new era of retail and urban living is arriving in the Philippines’ crown city of the south.
