GCash is rolling out a new "link-and-pay" feature this August 2026 that allows users to link up to three Visa or Mastercard debit and credit cards directly to the app, making it possible to pay via QR code even with a zero wallet balance.
No More Cash-In Hassle for Kapampangan Shoppers
GCash users will no longer need to worry about maintaining a wallet balance before making a purchase. The new feature, developed in partnership with Visa and Mastercard, allows consumers to use their credit or debit cards as the funding source for QR transactions directly within the app. Simply scan any QR code at a participating merchant, and the payment will be charged to your linked card if your wallet balance is insufficient.
G-Xchange President and CEO Ren-Ren Reyes emphasized the company's commitment to convenience: "We are thrilled to soon allow GCash users to link their Visa or Mastercard directly for payments... we remain committed to giving Filipinos the freedom to pay their way with ultimate convenience and total peace of mind."
How to Link Your Cards and Security Measures
Users can add up to three Visa or Mastercard cards through the app's "Cash In" section, with a one-time password sent to their registered number to verify ownership. A default card can be set, and users can manage or unlink cards anytime.
Transactions are secured by Visa Payment Passkey, a biometric authentication system that uses fingerprint, face recognition, or PIN instead of SMS OTPs, reducing fraud rates by up to 50% compared to traditional SMS authentication. This link-and-pay capability is scheduled to roll out nationwide within August, giving Kapampangans greater flexibility and security in their digital transactions.
