Residents of Barangay Mawaque now have a new venue for sports, gatherings, and community events. Mayor Atty. Geld Aquino led the inauguration of a newly constructed covered court on May 22, 2026, joined by Barangay Captain Lhoy Gomez and other barangay officials . The opening of the facility also marked the official launch of a local basketball league, the first activity held at the new covered court.
The project is part of the city government's infrastructure development plan to bring essential facilities directly into local communities. According to Mayor Aquino, the newly inaugurated covered court is among a series of projects being implemented for different barangays in Mabalacat City.
Basketball League Kicks Off as First Event
The covered court immediately hosted a basketball league, drawing players and spectators from the barangay. The facility provides a safe, weather-protected space for sports tournaments, barangay assemblies, and other community gatherings — a significant upgrade from open-air venues that are vulnerable to rain and extreme heat.
Residents and barangay officials expressed gratitude for the new facility and the continued implementation of community development projects in their area . Barangay Captain Lhoy Gomez thanked the city government for prioritizing the needs of Mawaque residents and for delivering a project that will benefit families for years to come.
More Projects Ahead for Barangay Mawaque
Following the launch of this project, city officials announced that an additional covered court and a new multi-purpose building are already slated for construction in Barangay Mawaque to further expand facilities available to residents . These upcoming projects will provide even more space for community activities, including meetings, celebrations, and sports events.
Mayor Aquino reaffirmed his commitment to bringing infrastructure improvements to barangays across Mabalacat City. The city government's infrastructure development plan continues to prioritize projects that enhance the quality of life for residents, from covered courts for youth sports to multi-purpose buildings for community gatherings .
