GENERAL TRIAS, CAVITE — General Trias is proving that meaningful careers don't always require leaving home, as the city celebrates its first graduates of a pioneering program designed to keep families together while building digital futures.
A Program Built for OFW Families
The Free Basic Virtual Assistance Training, organized by the City Government of General Trias through PESO in partnership with McCare Career Academy, ran from October 5 to 23, 2026. The program specifically targeted former Overseas Filipino Workers and immediate family members of active OFWs, recognizing that the global freelance market offers a viable path to income without the painful separation that overseas employment often demands. This initiative builds on the city's earlier VA Basics Program, which graduated 40 GenTriseños—many of them solo parents—in August 2026, with Mayor Jonjon Ferrer emphasizing that no resident should be left behind in the modern workforce.
Skills That Keep Families Together
The significance of this program extends far beyond skills acquisition. For OFW families, the opportunity to earn a living through remote work means no more missed birthdays, school events, or everyday moments that distance steals away. The training covered essential digital competencies for the growing online work industry, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth . With the first batch now graduated, General Trias is positioning itself as a city that invests in people—creating pathways to financial stability that honor both professional ambition and the Filipino family's enduring bond.
