OZAMIZ CITY - Around 1976, Ozamiz was already nearly three decades into its life as a chartered city, having been created under Republic Act No. 321 in 1948. The city’s older identity as Misamis was still woven into its streets, institutions, and community memory, while the name Ozamiz reflected its postwar transformation. Education was also an established part of city life, with the present-day DepEd history showing how the local school system had evolved through major national changes. Life in 1970s Ozamiz was also connected to movement—people traveling for school, work, trade, and family occasions. Historical records show that Philippine Airlines was already operating flights connecting Cebu and Ozamiz in 1976, while the city’s port had been established as a subport of entry in 1961.
