Commemorating a Distinguished Boholano Leader
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol commemorated the 130th birth anniversary of former President Carlos P. Garcia on November 4, 2026, through a celebration carrying the theme, “Panulondon ni Caloy: Pagkahiusa, Pag-alagad, ug Paglambo.” The gathering brought together provincial officials, national government representatives, stakeholders, and descendants of the former president to recognize his contributions to the country and his home province. Guest speaker OPAV Secretary Philip Lo emphasized that unity involves recognizing shared responsibilities and working together for the welfare of the people. Carla Garcia Campos, an heir of President Garcia, also encouraged Boholanos to uphold his values of mutual respect, cooperation, and selfless service.
Keeping the Values of Unity and Public Service Alive
The celebration highlighted how President Garcia's legacy can remain meaningful through everyday community involvement. His emphasis on Filipino identity, cooperation, and service provides an opportunity for residents to reflect on how they can contribute to local development. Public servants can demonstrate these values through responsible leadership, while community organizations and residents can participate in programs that address local needs. Young Boholanos can also learn about his life and contributions through history lessons, cultural activities, and visits to heritage sites. Remembering historical figures becomes more meaningful when their principles encourage positive actions in the present.
Preserving Bohol's Heritage for Future Generations
The anniversary celebration also recognized Bohol's continuing efforts to protect its cultural and natural heritage. The province highlighted the GREEN CARD received by the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark following its first revalidation mission, an important development in its continuing geopark recognition. This connects the celebration's message of shared responsibility with the need to care for the province's environment, historical landmarks, and cultural traditions. Through education, conservation activities, responsible tourism, and community participation, Boholanos can help preserve the province's identity while supporting its development for future generations.
