The event promises friendly competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable underwater adventures.
A Showcase of Marine Biodiversity
Puerto Galera is recognized as the gateway to the "Center of the Center" of Marine Biodiversity. It was named the Best Diving Destination at the DOT Tourism Awards 2025. The town offers a spectacular backdrop of vibrant reefs, fascinating macro subjects, and diverse marine life.
The event is organized by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with local dive operators and resort owners. Participants must stay and dive with DOT-accredited resorts. The ocean is ready, and the question remains: are you?
Competition Classes for Every Photographer
The shootout features two distinct competition classes. The Open Class welcomes all photographers with any camera and accessories. Professional photographers are automatically placed in this category.
The Compact Class is exclusive to cameras without interchangeable lenses. This ensures a level playing field for enthusiasts using simpler equipment. Each class is judged separately, allowing for fair recognition of skill across different gear levels.
Six Categories to Challenge Creativity
Photographers can compete across six distinct categories. Main categories include Macro/Supermacro, Marine Behavior, Wide Angle Close Focus, and Nudibranch. Special categories feature Cephalopod and Turtle Portrait.
Each participant may submit up to six images—one per regular category and one per special category. The submission deadline is 8:00 PM on September 19. Images must be in JPEG format with specific file naming conventions.
Strict Rules Protect Marine Life
A strict no marine life manipulation policy is enforced throughout the event. Touching, moving, or damaging marine life leads to disqualification. Participants are encouraged to report violations through proper channels.
Post-processing rules allow only global adjustments like white balance and contrast. Cloning, healing, and selective editing are prohibited. These measures ensure the integrity of the competition and the safety of the underwater ecosystem.
Awarding Ceremony and Prizes
Winners in main categories receive first, second, and third place awards per class. Special categories award first place per category, with Open and Compact judged together. Major awards include DOT Open Class Best of Show and DOT Compact Class Best of Show.
The awarding ceremony takes place on September 20 at 6:00 PM. The venue is Nansei Kaze Bar and Restaurant along Sabang Baywalk. Registration fees include entrance to the closing dinner.
