CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, PAMPANGA - The WorldSkills Philippines Clark 2026 has officially opened at the SMX Convention Center Ballroom in Clark Freeport, bringing together 298 top regional competitors from 18 regions to compete in 30 skill areas across six major industry sectors . This is the first time the national skills competition has adopted the full branding, format, and standards of WorldSkills International, marking a significant milestone for the country's technical-vocational education and training (TVET) sector . TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco "Kiko" Benitez emphasized that the alignment provides Filipino competitors with a clearer pathway from local training and competitions to the ASEAN, Asian, and global stages, saying, "When we compete, we push the envelope further than we have ever done before".
A Platform for Excellence and Global Competitiveness
The competition proper runs from September 8 to 10, where competitors will be assessed based on their technical knowledge, accuracy, quality of work, creativity, efficiency, and ability to perform under pressure . The six major sectors include Information and Communication Technology (featuring Cyber Security, AI, and Web Technologies), Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Construction and Building Technology, Social and Personal Services (including Cooking and Bakery), Creative Arts and Fashion, and Transportation and Logistics . This wide range of skill areas reflects the diverse needs of Clark's 1,200 locators and 151,000 workers, making workforce development essential for sustaining business growth in the area.
Building the Future Through Skills Development
CDC President and CEO Atty. Agnes VST Devanadera emphasized that the competition demonstrates how skills training complements formal education and ensures employability, noting that "skills are the real currency of opportunity" . TESDA Secretary Benitez described the event as a showcase of the country's "best of the best" young skilled talent, urging competitors to use the competition to push their limits and unlock hidden capabilities . Beyond determining the country's top skills champions, the event provides an avenue for trainers, experts, and industry partners to exchange knowledge and promote excellence in TVET . A new TESDA Innovation Center will soon provide accessible training for local residents in Clark, further strengthening the pipeline of skilled professionals who can meet industry needs and carry the Philippine flag in international skills competitions.
