MAKATI CITY — Independent theater collective The People Diary is set to premiere its debut production, “Unheard Voices: Original Monologues,” on November 8, 2026, at the Kontempo Community Studio in Ayala Malls Circuit Makati. Co-presented by Ayala Circuit Makati, Ayala Foundation Inc., and the Kontempo Community Studio, the one-day event challenges the stark minimalism typically associated with script-in-hand performances. Instead of the conventional black clothing and bare stages, the production embraces a highly visual and colorful aesthetic. It promises to offer local audiences a vibrant and unconventional theatrical experience right in the heart of the city.

A Theatrical Departure from Tradition

The narrative framework of the production centers on six spirits convening for a Halloween gathering. Through their individual monologues, the audience uncovers the personal histories, struggles, and ultimate fates of these characters. Rather than presenting a somber reflection on loss, the creative team transforms the theme of grief into a lively and energetic celebration of life. A significant element of this visual storytelling is the incorporation of drag aesthetics. This deliberate artistic choice pays tribute to self-expression, highlighting themes of creative resilience and inclusive identity exploration.

Six Ghosts and Fresh Perspectives

What makes this production particularly notable is its commitment to amplifying voices from outside the traditional commercial theater circuit. The monologues were written purely out of passion by a diverse group of professionals, including development worker Miguel Louie B. de Guzman, dramaturg Mavs Alviar, TV composer Ann Figueroa, and physician-writer Dr. Ella Mae Masamayor. They are joined by journalist Catherine Orda, communications strategist Janelle Capiral, and portraitist Myra Ho. The entire showcase is guided by the seasoned direction of Prof. Romualdo “Ronie” M. Protacio, a veteran cultural worker with over four decades of experience.

A New Home for Contemporary Arts

The event takes place at the Kontempo Community Studio, situated at the Riverfront Entrance of Ayala Malls Circuit in Barangay Carmona. This venue is currently serving as a preview and engagement space for the future Kontempo – Center for Contemporary Art, Philippines. The production will have two exclusive showtimes on November 8: a matinee at 2:00 PM and a gala at 6:00 PM. Tickets are available for reservation online, offering Makati residents and visitors a compelling reason to explore the city’s growing independent arts scene.
