BOHOL — Bohol marked International Youth Day 2026 by highlighting the important role of young people in building stronger, more inclusive and sustainable communities.
With the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” the celebration recognized that young people may come from different backgrounds and face different challenges, but they continue to share common goals such as better education, decent work, meaningful participation, equal opportunities and a sustainable future.
Youth Programs Supported Young Boholanos
In Bohol, young people were supported through various youth development programs led by the Provincial Government of Bohol, through the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO). These programs provided opportunities for young people to learn new skills, participate in community activities, take leadership roles and contribute to local development.
Beyond government-led programs, non-government organizations, schools, youth groups and local communities across the province also organized activities, projects and advocacy campaigns focused on creating positive change.
Young People Played a Role in Bohol's Future
As a UNESCO Global Geopark, Bohol recognized young people as important partners in protecting the province's natural and cultural heritage. Their creativity, knowledge, energy and passion were seen as valuable in promoting sustainable development and protecting the province's geological, biological and cultural resources. Young people took part in activities related to geoheritage, cultural traditions, environmental conservation, climate action, responsible tourism and community development.
Youth Helped Protect Bohol's Heritage
The involvement of young people in these efforts helped strengthen awareness of Bohol's unique heritage and encouraged communities to take part in sustainability initiatives. By learning about the province's geological features, living traditions and cultural heritage, the youth were able to better understand their role in preserving these resources for future generations. Their participation also showed that young people were not simply beneficiaries of sustainable development programs but active partners in creating long-term solutions for their communities.
Next Generation Shaped the Geopark's Future
The International Youth Day 2026 celebration emphasized that the future of the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark depended greatly on the next generation. Through education, leadership, conservation and community involvement, young Boholanos were already contributing to the protection of the province's heritage and the promotion of sustainable development. Their efforts demonstrated that while young people may have grown up in different contexts, their shared aspirations could help bring communities together and create a more sustainable future for Bohol.
