MATAG-OB, LEYTE — Responding to prolonged dry spells affecting local agriculture and community water sources, the Local Government Unit of Matag-ob deployed its Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) Team across all 21 barangays of the municipality.
The municipal-wide assessment was executed pursuant to Executive Order No. 61, Series of 2026, issued by the local chief executive to evaluate the full extent of damages caused by the El Niño weather phenomenon.
Evaluating Barangay Impacts And Immediate Needs
The RDANA team conducted on-site inspections and field interviews to establish baseline data regarding agricultural losses, potable water supply levels, and household welfare across Matag-ob's rural communities.
Primary objectives of the multi-sectoral assessment include:
Agricultural Damage Accounting: Measuring crop losses, soil degradation, and livestock stress across farming barangays.
Water Resource Supply Tracking: Documenting drying shallow wells, communal irrigation drops, and residential water scarcity.
Immediate Intervention Mapping: Identifying households requiring emergency relief, water tankering, or alternative livelihood support.
MDRRMC Review And Potential State Of Calamity Declaration
Technical teams are currently consolidating field data collected from all 21 barangays to form a comprehensive damage report.
Once data synthesis is complete, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) will convene in a special session to review the findings. The council will determine appropriate mitigation measures, including whether recommending the local council to declare a municipal State of Calamity is necessary to release quick response funds (QRF) for affected farming families.
