SURIGAO CITY — The City Government of Surigao, through the City Veterinary Office, will conduct a "Serbisyong Panghayop sa Barangay" (Animal Health Services in the Barangays) from July 6 to August 5, 2026. This initiative provides residents with an opportunity to have their livestock and pets checked and receive free services, including anti-rabies vaccination, hog cholera vaccination for pigs, hemosept vaccination for cattle, carabaos, and goats, vitamin supplementation, deworming, and animal check-ups.
Bringing Essential Services Closer to the Community
The program is designed to make animal health services accessible to residents in their own barangays, eliminating the need for long travel to the city proper. By bringing these services directly to the community, the City Veterinary Office ensures that even those in remote areas can benefit from proper animal care. This initiative also promotes responsible pet ownership and livestock management, which are essential for maintaining healthy households and livelihoods.
How to Avail of the Services
Residents are encouraged to check the schedule for their barangay as provided by the City Veterinary Office. A minimal fee of PHP100 is required for pet registration to have animals recorded in the City Veterinary Office database, which entitles them to all future free services, including vaccinations, deworming, check-ups, and other services. Pets that are already registered for the current year do not need to pay again. Barangays not included in the current schedule should wait for future announcements.
Strengthening Community Health and Livelihoods
Healthy animals contribute to healthier communities. By preventing the spread of diseases like rabies and hog cholera, the program protects both animal and human health. For farmers and livestock raisers, access to free vaccination and deworming services helps safeguard their livelihood and food security. This community-centered approach reflects the city government's commitment to supporting the well-being of its residents and their animals.
