DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur — The Provincial Government of Davao del Sur officially turned over a new Multi-Purpose Building to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) on August 24, 2026. Governor Yvonne Cagas led the ceremony, marking a significant investment in the province's social welfare infrastructure.
A New Facility for Social Welfare
The newly completed warehouse, valued at ₱2,298,000, was formally accepted by PSWD Officer Geraldine Lano on behalf of the office. This facility provides the PSWDO with secure and organized storage space for a variety of essential items. It will house relief goods, medical supplies, and other critical inventories.
The warehouse directly addresses a long-standing need for proper stockroom capacity. It streamlines the process of storing and deploying emergency logistics during natural disasters or public crises. This ensures that the province is better prepared to respond quickly and effectively when communities need assistance the most.
Food Packs for Transport Workers
The turnover ceremony also served as an opportunity to extend direct aid to the community. Almost 500 members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) of Digos City received food packs. This distribution brought immediate relief to the transport sector workers.
The food packs were sourced from the Department of Social Welfare and Development's "Food for Work" program. This initiative provides temporary assistance to beneficiaries in exchange for community work. It reflects the government's efforts to provide a social safety net while promoting community participation.
Strengthening Emergency Preparedness
The new PSWDO warehouse is more than just a building; it is a strategic asset. Having a dedicated storage hub means relief goods are ready to be dispatched at a moment's notice. This reduces response time during calamities, ensuring faster aid delivery.
