DAVAO — The Kadayawan Festival 2026 was more than just a cultural celebration. It became a proving ground for young martial artists as the Elite Taekwondo "Festival of Kicks" Kadayawan Edition brought together 418 athletes from across Mindanao and beyond.
A Gathering of Young Warriors
The event, held from August 29 to 31, 2026, drew participants from Davao, Mati, Marbel, Kidapawan, Lake Sebu, and even Bohol. Organized by the Team Elite Organizing Committee of the Elite Taekwondo Association of the Philippines, the festival provided a platform for skill development and friendly competition.
The presence of Master Junsup Oh and Master Jooil Park, both Kukkiwon-certified instructors, elevated the event's prestige. Their participation brought an international standard to the local competition. Young athletes had the rare opportunity to showcase their skills before world-class mentors.
Champions Crowned, Friendships Forged
When the final scores were tallied, Hwarang Taekwondo Club RXI emerged as the overall champion. JL Katma Taekwondo Training Center secured the first runner-up position, followed by Golden Knights Taekwondo Club. Lake Sebu Elite Taekwondo Academy placed third runner-up, rounding out the top competitors.
The trophies told only part of the story. Every young athlete who stepped onto the mat took home something valuable—a medal, a new friendship, or newfound confidence. The competition was fierce but the atmosphere remained supportive and encouraging.
Celebrating Courage and Confidence
Sometimes, the biggest victory in sports isn't the medal around an athlete's neck. Sometimes, it is simply finding the courage to step onto the mat. That spirit was on full display at the Festival of Kicks.
The event offered more than a day of kicks and punches. It gave young athletes a chance to test their skills and build self-belief. For many, it was their first major competition, an experience that will shape their athletic journeys.
The Unsung Heroes: Coaches
Behind each young athlete stood a dedicated coach. These mentors taught, corrected, encouraged, and challenged their students. Sometimes, they simply reminded them to believe in themselves.
The coaches guided children through the pressures of competition. Their tireless work transforms young learners into confident martial artists. The festival also served as a testament to the impact of quality coaching in grassroots sports.
Building Character Through Sport
Sports should build more than skills; they should build character and confidence too. Events like the Festival of Kicks show what happens when children have a safe space to compete. They don't just become better athletes—they become more confident young people.
The Kadayawan Festival's integration of sports underscores Davao City's commitment to youth development. By providing these platforms, the city invests in the holistic growth of its young citizens. One kick, one friendship, one brave step onto the mat at a time.
