TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte — The Sports Ta Uy Inter-School Competition and Tagum City Athletic Association Meet 2026 concluded on September 13 with Cluster 1 and Unit 1 declared overall champions. The closing ceremony took place at the Tagum City National Comprehensive High School Gymnasium.
Champions Crowned in Tagum
Student-athletes from elementary and secondary schools competed across four days of events, including board games, team sports, and athletic competitions. The games formally opened on September 10 at the New City Hall Atrium with a parade and oath-taking ceremony.
Elementary Division: Cluster 1 Dominates
Cluster 1 - Tagum Central District captured the elementary title with 72 gold medals, 42 silvers, and 50 bronzes. Partial and unofficial tallies released earlier in the week showed shifting standings, but the final count confirmed Cluster 1's commanding performance across all events.
The competition featured four elementary clusters representing different districts of the city. Cluster 2, Cluster 3, and Cluster 4 also competed fiercely throughout the week. Every delegation demonstrated months of preparation, with young athletes delivering strong performances across multiple disciplines.
Secondary Division: Unit 1 Takes the Title
Unit 1, composed of Tagum City National Comprehensive High School, Pandapan Integrated School, and Laureta National High School, won the secondary championship. The unit amassed 79 gold medals, 61 silvers, and 55 bronzes over the competition period.
Unit 6 representing Tagum City Private Schools and Unit 2 also posted strong results. The secondary division featured six competing units, with the medal race remaining competitive until the final events concluded on the last day.
Cheerdance Finals and Community Spirit
Three schools advanced to the Cheerdance finals: La Filipina National High School, Tagum National Trade School, and Tagum City National Comprehensive High School. Their powerful routines energized the crowd and capped the competition's festive atmosphere at the venue.
Councilor Ciara Uy-Salazar, representing Mayor Rey T. Uy, praised the athletes for their determination, discipline, and skill. She reaffirmed the local government's support as the delegation prepares for the upcoming DAVRAA meet.
Eyes on DAVRAA and Palarong Pambansa
Schools Division Superintendent Alona C. Uy thanked the city government for its strong partnership under the Sports Ta Uy program. She set an ambitious target of 30 gold medals for the Tagum delegation at next year's Palarong Pambansa in Quezon City.
Training will intensify in the coming months as coaches and athletes prepare for national competition. The performance in this meet serves as a benchmark for the delegation's readiness and potential on a much larger stage.
A Week of Discipline and Pride
The opening ceremony featured four elementary clusters and six secondary units parading before officials. Regional Director Maria Ines C. Asuncion emphasized that sports build character, discipline, and pride among young competitors.
Organizers announced plans for future inter-college and inter-NGO competitions, expanding the program's reach. The meet concluded with the Friendship Cauldron lit and a community dance, symbolizing unity among Tagum's student-athletes.
