DAVAO — Philippine Saba bananas are expanding their global reach following the signing of two Supply and Purchase Agreements during Asia Fruit Logistica Hong Kong 2026 on September 2. The deals open new international markets for this premium export-quality fruit.
New Trade Partners Secured
The agreements were signed between Philippine exporter Avante Agri-Products Philippines Inc. and two international buyers. Cozy and Korner Trading Co. of Hong Kong will serve as the exclusive distributor in Hong Kong. Fresh Produce Group Limited of New Zealand will act as the exclusive importer and distributor in New Zealand.
These partnerships represent a significant milestone for the Philippine banana industry. They strengthen trade linkages between local exporters and international buyers. The deals create new opportunities for Filipino farmers and agribusinesses.
A Growing Export Portfolio
The Saba banana is gaining recognition as a versatile and nutritious fruit. Its export potential is now being realized in new territories. The recent agreements follow an earlier shipment of Cardava bananas to Saudi Arabia.
Last month, GERB Golden Hands Corp. sent an initial 20-ton shipment of Cardava bananas to Saudi Arabia. The shipment comprised 1,540 boxes, each weighing 13 kilograms. This demonstrates the growing demand for Philippine produce in the Middle East.
Philippine Delegation at Asia Fruit Logistica
The signing was among the highlights of the country's participation in AFL 2026. The Department of Agriculture led a delegation of key industry associations. These included groups representing banana, durian, mango, and dragon fruit growers.
The delegation aimed to promote the country's agricultural products and explore new international markets. Participation in such events strengthens the Philippines' presence in the global fresh produce industry. It positions local exporters to compete on the world stage.
Davao Region's Agricultural Strength
The DA-11 is actively supporting these export initiatives. Regional Technical Director for Operations Marie Ann Constantino emphasized the importance of complying with market protocols. Meeting importing countries' standards ensures successful entry and competitiveness.
The region is also exploring opportunities through the Sabah International Expo 2026. This biennial trade fair in Malaysia serves as a platform for BIMP-EAGA and ASEAN exhibitors. It highlights the competitiveness of Davao Region products and opens doors for Halal-certified enterprises.
