DAVAO — The prestigious Designers' Holiday Bazaar has made its historic Mindanao debut, bringing a curated showcase of Filipino artistry and fashion to Abreeza Ayala Mall. Running from September 3 to 6, 2026, the event is the first of its kind held outside Manila, placing Davao's creative talent on the national stage.
A Milestone for Davao and Mindanao
Founded 13 years ago by sisters Bea Zobel Jr. and Sofia Zobel-Elizalde, the DHB has long been a beloved holiday fixture in Metro Manila. Its expansion to Davao honors their close friend, the late Maricris Florendo-Brias, who championed Mindanao artistry. The move marks a significant step in creating a true nationwide exchange of design and creativity.
The sisters expressed excitement about discovering new talents in the region. They see Mindanao as a colorful source of innovation and craftsmanship. The Davao edition places national design icons side by side with the region's finest artisans.
A Bazaar with a Heart
Beyond offering unique finds, every purchase at DHB supports meaningful community work. Proceeds directly fund academic and dance scholarships managed with the Ayala Foundation and the Steps Scholarship Foundation. To date, the bazaar has supported 18 active students and funded training for over 58 young dancers.
In Davao, the proceeds will specifically help fund an educational initiative for 15 schools. This pilot project aims to improve students' performance in mathematics through the Centex Digital Education High Touch, High Tech program. Councilor Antoinette Principe, chairperson of the City Council Committee of Education, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
Celebrating Filipino Creativity
This year's theme, "Sinag" or Ray of Light, celebrates the thread connecting time-honored Filipino heritage to the future. The showcase offers an exclusive curation of bespoke fashion, tropical home decor, handcrafted goods, and artisanal food. Each piece tells a story of meticulous attention to detail and regional pride.
A breathtaking cultural highlight is set for September 5, when Davao's own national artist Agnes Locsin will choreograph an exclusive live performance. This collaboration underscores DHB's commitment to celebrating Filipino artistry at the highest level. The performance is expected to be a centerpiece of the four-day event.
Featuring Dabawenyo Talent
About 26 exhibitors participated, with half of them hailing from Davao. Featured Dabawenya designer Kathryn Fanlo showcased her handmade earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and bags. Fanlo emphasized that joining the bazaar is an opportunity to help advance a good cause.
Toto Muyco, cacao entrepreneur behind Tsokolate de San Isidro and Cafe Sikwate, highlighted the alignment of values. His social enterprise helps farmers in Davao del Norte, mirroring DHB's advocacy for responsible business. The event provides a platform for these local heroes to reach a wider audience.
