MAKATI CITY — Makati’s gastronomic landscape has gained a distinguished new address as Swiss chocolatier Läderach opens its second Philippine boutique at Level 1 of Greenbelt 5. The store introduces Filipino palates to the brand’s signature FrischSchoggi, hand-broken slabs of fresh chocolate crafted in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland. It also offers an assortment of handcrafted pralines, truffles, mini mousses, and seasonal creations. For a city that celebrates culinary excellence, the arrival of a world-class chocolatier adds a new dimension to Makati’s food culture.
A Bean-to-Counter Philosophy Rooted in Swiss Tradition
Founded in 1962, Läderach remains a family-owned company now led by the third generation of the Läderach family. The brand is renowned for pioneering thin-walled hollow truffle balls and for selling fresh chocolate openly in its boutiques. Elias Läderach, one of the three brothers at the helm, holds the title of World Chocolate Master, a distinction that underscores the house’s technical mastery. All Läderach chocolate is produced exclusively in Switzerland, allowing the company to oversee every stage from cocoa bean selection to the final counter presentation. This bean-to-counter discipline is central to the brand’s identity and to the quality of its output.
The FrischSchoggi Experience
At the heart of the Greenbelt 5 boutique is the FrischSchoggi counter, where large slabs of chocolate are broken by hand according to each customer’s preference. The format invites interaction and personalization, turning a simple purchase into a curated tasting moment. Beyond the fresh chocolate, the store offers pralines, truffles, tablet bars, and FrischSchoggi Minis designed for both indulgence and gifting. These creations reflect a balance of tradition and innovation, appealing to casual chocolate lovers and discerning gourmands alike.
A Welcome Addition to Makati’s Culinary Map
The boutique is open from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM from Sundays through Thursdays, and from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. It is operated by Valiram, Southeast Asia’s leading luxury retail specialist, which also manages GODIVA and Bacha Coffee in the region. A third Philippine location is planned at SM Megamall. For Makati, the opening reinforces the city’s reputation as a destination for premium food experiences and global culinary brands.
