Bringing More Educational Opportunities to Negros Island
BACOLOD - Southwestern University PHINMA has begun development of its future Bacolod Campus at Saludad Township following a groundbreaking ceremony held on November 3, 2026. The expansion is intended to make quality higher education more accessible to learners from Negros Occidental and neighboring communities. By establishing a campus closer to home, students may have more opportunities to pursue their preferred degrees without the additional expenses and adjustments associated with relocating to another city. The development also adds to Bacolod's growing role as a destination for education and professional training.
Expanding Pathways in Health Science Education
The planned campus is expected to offer Nursing, Medical Technology, Psychology, Pharmacy, and Medicine, with Dentistry and Optometry identified as subsequent program offerings. These courses can provide aspiring health professionals with additional opportunities to prepare for careers in healthcare and related fields. The university's broader academic direction also includes pathways in business, technology, engineering, design, communication, and social sciences. With more educational choices becoming available locally, students can explore different career interests while remaining closer to their families and communities.
Connecting Education With Community Development
Targeted for completion in 2028, the campus development represents an investment in the region's educational opportunities and future workforce. Beyond academic programs, the university has expressed interest in working with community partners on initiatives involving barangay health centers, maternal and child health, and early childhood development. These efforts could help connect educational institutions with practical community needs while encouraging collaboration among schools, public agencies, and local organizations. As the project progresses, the campus may contribute to Bacolod's development as a place where students can pursue their ambitions and prepare to serve communities across Negros Island.
